Default Clainhart3's New 951

Hey Y'all,

I recently picked up a '89 951 off a long time member here, Ian. I stole some of the photos from his for sale ad here:

The car is a really nice example. It's Apline and Burgundy with 130k. After getting a re-paint, the car had the Lindsey Racing catalogue thrown at it back in the mid 2000s by the owner before Ian. That owner was planning on setting the car as a pretty serious track car. It has the following LRmods:
- Super 61 turbo kit
- 3" Exhaust
- Stage 2 Head
- Stage 2 Clutch
- Short Shifter
- MAF
- Steam Vent Kit
- Gauge Cluster

Outside of that, the car had the following:
- RH 3.6 wheels (18x8 +52 up front and 18x10 +54 out back)
- Falken Azenis fk510 (235/40/18 up front and 275/35/18 out back)
- Leda coils in the front and rear
- M030 sways
- Big Red Brake Calipers
- 968 mirrors and spoiler
- Side molding removed
- GT Racing front splitter

All in all, the car is in really nice shape, and is set up well. There are a few little things that I plan on fixing in the near future:
- Momo Mod 7 steering wheel
- Only944 shifter arm and linkage
- Jaffster style shift ****
- Continental TR7411U OR head unit
- Wide band O2 for the LR gauge pod
- Install a cat so I can clear emissions
- Have some minor paint work done to fix some flaws on the car.

I have some long term plans for the car, but I want to drive it for a while and enjoy it before I go about pulling it apart. I will try and keep this updated throughout my ownership as a record.

Thanks again to Ian for being a great seller, and for answering all my questions along the way. He's been a huge help.

Clayton

Very nice. More motivation for me to finish mine. I'm currently rebuilding my RH 3.6 wheels among a laundry list of other things.

Any idea on the offsets on those wheels and what tire sizes are you running?

Hey Audisport. I added the specs to the OP. They are the perfect wheel for this car IMO

Thanks RaleignBahn. I'm not sure how to check. Can you tell me?

Well, the car only lasted a week before I decide to start ruin it. I bought a Momo Mod 07 wheel for it. Ignore the shifter rod for now. It's getting painted this weekend.

So I have a couple of questions. First off, this was a airbag car. I bought a Momo hub adapter #8010, which has the right splines, but it interferes with the airbag slip ring. I removed the slip ring to install the wheel for a test drive, but obvi I will want to put on back on to keep the horn and turn signal functions. I read some people saying that the #7004 adapter works with the airbag slip ring, but based on the pictures I have seen, I don't see how it would work. Does anyone have any experience here?

Secondly, I think that the wheel might be fake. This is the only stamp on the back of the wheel. All the other Momo wheels I have seen have more info in the stamp. Does anyone know if this looks right?

Thanks

Clayton

So you need a non airbag windshield wiper/cruise control stalk. I’ll post some pics. And the brown wire that goes to the black connection on the airbag clock switch is the horn positive power switch. The connector has to be cut on the car side. Then that horn wire has to be connected to the back side of the copper slide of the non airbag stalk. So the Cooper slide will have power to it. Then the ground from the horn button has to be tapped into the metal hub, or run under one of the screws from the wheel to the hub. Make sure it is bare metal. It’s real hard to explain. Pm me if needed and I’ll try to talk ya through it.
Clock switch

Non airbag stalk. (What ya need)

Your present stalk.

Congrats on your purchase Clayton. Looks like a really well sorted example. The RH wheels and 968 parts look fantastic with the white paint.

Looking forward to reading more about your ownership experience.

Thanks! Mine are the same offsets. Previous owner of them painted the centers black though and I'm tearing them apart to refinish in silver/grey.

Any chance you think a 245 tire would fit up front?

Nice Car, can't help you on the Momo, I have a Personal Neo Grinta, love it, my '87 911 Coupe has a Momo Type 36 and I messed up because I did not photo the back before installing but I recall imprints with the Type # ... with regard to the airbag, there's a part used in the Cup cars that allows everything to work (horn) etc. And to check production number check the last 4 digits of your VIN, mine is 0492. So, I'm 492/1985.
