As it turns out, the fix couldn't have been simpler. There's a connector about 9 inches from the pump that had work its way loose, probably as a result of all the times I've removed and reinstalled the pump over the past few weeks. Don't know why I didn't check this a lot sooner, but the problem is solved, still for $0, which I guess is a nice Christmas gift. On my way to take it for a spin.
