Default 1989 Porsche 951

Hey Guys, Well I have decided to sale my 89 944 Turbo and since finding this site I figured you guys would be the true "appreciaters" of these cars. I would also like to add a photo to my classified ad; however, I am not able to re-size to the specified size. If anyone can help with the re-size I am attaching a photo below. I have several detailed photos of the interior/exterior. I am selling to make room for my new Boxster, and will still be enjoying the site and becoming a new member tonight. You guys sure add a lot of help and joy to Porsche ownership. Anyway, let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks!!

Wow! Very clean example but isn't 16k wishful thinking with the present market for these cars?...

Cheers,
Sach

For an '89 in that clean of condition with that low of miles and all the options/receipts I think the car is a very fair price. I know a local guy here that had a fairly low mile '86 turbo that was just as nice and he just e-mail'd me this week with the news that he finally sold it for $15.5K

$16K is a very reasonable deal. I agree with Sach, now is not the best time to be selling a weekend toy if you're wanting to get rid of it quick and want top dollar. Those who have the time to wait usually get what the car is worth. It's those that are in a rush to sell that get the short end of the stick :-(

Let us know how it goes and your finally selling price.

What are you buying in the way of a Boxster? I am off to start looking this week. Wont buy until I find one with sport seats and sport package. Found one about 5 hours from me but they want well more than I am willing to spend.

That's why ORIGINAL 88"S" and 89 cars retain their value, $16k is reasonable. That first shot,,is that Horseshoe lake over in West Memphis? I'll pass on the info on the car to a FedEx driver(Airbus 300) who is looking for one.

I agree with the above posts that $16k is a very fair price. I paid $17.5k for my '88 with 38,000 miles in pristine condition. A little much? You get what you pay for.

Truer (sp?) words have never been spoken! I paid $16K US for my '89 Turbo and apart from the usual maintenance, my mother's Honda Accord has been in the shop more. It is as reliable as anything and worth every penny....

I hear allot of "the 951 is the highest maintenance car you can buy!" but that's only true if you buy a cheap one that hasn't been kept up properly, which is too often the case.

Good luck selling your car, BTW!

Hold your price. It's more than fair. A pristine 951 is not a bargain basement Porsche. If the Turbo wananbees need a bargain, tell 'em to find a nice 924.

I don't care what some people say, these cars WILL be collector cars some day. And since they are not building any more, and the crusher is finding quite a few, the numbers ARE dwindling - and the prices WILL be going up.

ps: I can say whatever I want about 924's, I've got a nice one.

Very fair price. Perhaps too fair. Very few top notch 951s anymore. So many have been beaten and battered or now rest in a junkyard. A lot of 951 crap around. A lot of shaky owners with cars that have shaky or unknown pasts. $16K doesnt buy as much car as people think. You can buy a $10K 951 and have a car that needs belts, pumps, mount, seals, brakes, hatches, stereos, compressors, bad paint, etc etc and you are staring at a $20,000 car were you to fix it all.

I may get vilified for saying this but the 944 crowd isnt the same as the 911 crowd. Typically a little less cash, younger, not as affluent. And often they are people who always wanted a Porsche but then all of a sudden cannot affford it or live above their means. Usually people who buy 911s (espec. new ones) need not ask how much because if you ask how much then you probably cant afford it anyway. Point being, people with 944s tend to have to dump them quickly more so than people driving Boxsters, 911s, 928s etc. So in order to dump them they drive everybody elses price down when its their turn to sell patiently.

Obviously I was generalizing but I think the generalization has merit in cases like this. $16K for a mint 89 Turbo S @79K miles that needs nothing is a bargain. You can pay now or play later. Usually on fixer uppers you pay later and pay much more. Ive always had better luck buying a cherry to begin with rather than building a cherry. Its also cheaper because the PO isnt going to get $1 for $1 on their maintenance so you are getting a GREAT deal on Turbo9441's new timing belt, water pumps etc etc. No matter how hard you try, sometimes you cant shine a turd.
