Turbo Rebuild - Garret or KKK ?
Hi,
i want to have let my K26/6 been rebuild... The #6 Hotside and the Oil/Watercooled center-section should remain... What cold-side would you prefer ?
K27, Garret, etc ?
I´ve got a HR Stage 3.5 MAF so a 2,75" or 3" intake is no problem...
Greetings,
Wolfgang

You can buy a Garrett from Majestic for 840+ shipping. T04E with the options you want. Just search for Majestic Turbo in Waco, TX. BTW - they had mine done in 2 days.

There are at least 3 of us with new TO4E's now and I had the same choice you did. I could get my stock K26/6 upgraded to a K27/6 for about $550-$600 or buy a new TO4E for $850. For the extra $250-$300 I went with the garrett.......it's such a pain to remove the turbo in the first place that I felt more comfortable going all out the first time than just repairing the stock turbo.

What is the difference in a 27/6 compared to a TO4E?? Efficency, power, inlet, price, good place to buy? When doing this, you have to upgrade (re-burn) chips for the car, right? I have a set of danno's chip set for my car, so I just just get them re-burned from him.

I still would like to hear what you guys running the TO4E think of your turbos. In the summer I am going to be replacing mine alone with some other upgrades, but I was just wondering what to expect. Also, how long does it take to pull out the turbo and put in the TO4E? Is it a direct bolt on replacement or do you need to move anything?

Mike, I will snag a pic or two, I am in the process of lining it all up. The top of the turbo appears it is going to have to be filed down to clear the bottom of the intake as well as a few little things.

I would keep the #6 hot side for sure. The #8's are too laggy for a 2.5 liter engine in my opinion (that is... unless you have big $$$ spent on other modifications to take advantage of high rpm power).
See if you can find someone to bolt up a 60-1HiFi compressor/wheel to it. If yo can't, I know for a fact that you can bolt up a T04B .70 a/r compressor to the KKK center section and #6 hot side.
Or you could keep it simple and convert to a K27/6 which is a great turbo for a stock or mildly modified engine for sure.

Where did you purchase your turbo? I've heard Majestic, Tec. Was it one of these? I'm thinking of going to a .54 trim or something close. What was the thinking on that?
My useage will be mostly track. Some autocross for grins.
I figure I have this thing so far apart, I don't want to go back in later to do the turbo.
Any details you can give on who to talk to and so on would be greatly appreciated.
Did you get yours back together yet?
Thanks

Mine was purchased from Turbonetics (www.turbonetics.com) and I think Matt H got his from TEC. I would have gone with TEC, but their first quote to me was $200 too high because I got ahold of the secretary who probably didn't know the pricing too well.
Sorry...multiple questions there. Not back together yet and probably will take me another 4 weeks. Right now I'm waiting for parts. Do a search for "Bay Area Engine Pull" and you'll see a ton of pics.

did you guys stay with the kk hotside etc to avoid having to buy a new crossover etc? I'm not happy with my 27 and it's on it's way out . I wanna go the 60-1 route. I'm just not clear on everything thats involved here. If I have to I can make a header and crossover no problem as I've fabbed some turbo kits. But the owners just brought the turbo flanges etc and I made the headers crossover downpipe etc.
