Default OT: Ebay or AutoTrader to sell car?

I am selling a car, NOT my 951.

Which is more effective?

List on EBAY or list on AutoTrader?

Thanks for some opinions.

Ebay will sell it quicker, but you wont get as much for it.
Autotrader could take a while, but you will probly get a little more.

Having just sold a car (red Miata) through AutoTrader online, I was floored at how many responses I got. I received no fewer than 20 calls and emails in the first two weeks and then sold it. I had listed the car in the Washington Post for a weekend previously and received nothing at all. The top-of-the-line AutoTrader ad is $70 for lots of text with about 9 photos, and runs til it sells. They have much cheaper options too. I don't know what kind of car you're selling, or its condition and pricing, which all are important factors, but AutoTrader worked great for me.

I've had very good luck with Autotrader in the past, but I've got two pet peeves about their service:

(1) some people who buy ads on AT without time limits will leave their cars for sale long after the vehicle has been sold (months in some cases). You never know if what you're interested in is still for sale and,

(2) some AT ads only have one photo (a few have no photos at all)--this is a huge disadvantage to a prospective buyer. You can upgrade the AT ad to incorporate more photos which I think is the only practical way for AT to remain competetive with ebay.

Typically ebay ads have more photos and provide more information about the vehicle than AT. Also, with ebay, you have better assurance that the item advertised for sale is really for-sale.

The only downside to ebay (IMO), is that you'll wind up with lots more tire-kickers and bargain hunters than with AT, probably because of the wider exposure.

I sold my 84 928 on Ebay within a week. I was asking 10,000.00 but ended up selling it for 9,200.00. The greater the exposure the better, I would do both. If you sell your car for a bit higher than your asking price because of the extra exposure, it will sure be worth the extra 70.00 for the listing. Reno
