3" exhaust installed, loud for my use
#33
I just lowered price in my local Craigslist to $400.00. At $400 i wont pay for shipping, but it shouldnt be that bad. I shipped an Audi 10Vt head today for $33 bucks through Fedex. I need to clear some space in my garage. I want to take out my engine to do a full gasket / seal & timing belt replacement., Need to make some room.

I have 3'' custom exhaust with two Magnaflow straight through flow resonators - one in the place of cat and other in the place of original muffler. It is not too loud - I even considered to remove one of the resonators. It gets louder if you cruise with rpms above 4 – 4.5 rpm, but still totally fine. Was in a trip where I drove for 6 hours and it was still fine. this is how is sounds from outside at WOT and up to redline:

Three Wheelin'
Hey Gents I went to smog last week with my '89 turbo thats modified mildy but still has AFM and looks pretty much stock but has always past smogged last 6 years with flying colors this is 3rd time going. He started it up and then looked under the car at exhaust and asked if it was stock then he said he wouldnt finish smog until I showed him a receipt for my 3" lindsey cat thats in the 3"-4" exhaust I bought in 2011 from another rennlister used. Can anyone copy a receipt for a 3" cat and email to me this week I can remove your info and put my name on her or you can delete your info so I can get my car smogged I would greatly appreciate it? I have lots of small parts and interior nbits and pieces if you need any trim or little bits I can trade you for the effort? Any receipt from last 10 years will work. thanks Shawn commdiver@sbcglobal.net

He's probably wanting to see the receipt with PN#, to verify that the cat is CARB-approved for a 944 turbo (it isn't).
The only CARB-legal cats are 2.5" in/out.
I've had to show receipts and MFR catalog printouts for a non-stock cat to prove legality before.

Obviously, "loud" is a subjective term. I have a LR 3", no cat, and the stainless Magnaflow muffler that LR sells. If you asked me if it was "loud", I would say no. I would use the terms "throaty", "rumble", "burble", etc. I also dump the wastegate to atmosphere. When that opens? Oh yes, it's "loud".

I just installed my 3 inch Lindsey exhaust. Bought it used off an eBay seller. Bolted up nicely. Only little leak he showed me was from the tie in from the wastegate. The clamp was a little bent and isn’t sealing all the way. I don’t think it affects performance but I am going to buy a new one and seal it up. It came with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and I welded in a vibrant 200 cell HFC. Sounds excellent. Way better than I expected. Now I got to get a tip. Prob just go with a black oval one. Keep it OEM looking.
