Default Mls cosmetic and raceware studs and wet sleeved. Torque spec for that combo?

So I just watched one of the boost bros bids. They used a dry sleeve with block filler and a cosmetic gasket and set the torque at 100 ft lbs. I've lost 2 cosmetic gaskets this summer. One was for an obvious over boost 30+ psi and this largest one I'm trying to figure out. Maybe with my combo I need to "up" the torque? The raceware studs called out 75 ft lbs...but I think they are assuming stock gasket.... Any info would be appreciated. !

The stock torque I would think. He threads are still aluminum in the block.

Raceware says 65 ft lbs (in three stages), though not sure they speak to the type of gasket. I've had much better luck with them at 95 ft lbs or so, and the threads in the block are ok at that level.

I have darton MID sleeves, raceware head studs, and cometic gasket.

I use the standard late model 951 torque sequence of 20 ft lbs, 90 degs, then another 90 degs. And have had no problems, but I haven't boosted past 17 psi

When the two 90 degree sequences are followed, it would be interesting to note the final tourqe value of stock vs arp /raceware. If the studs are harder than stock then final tourqe value would be greater because there is less stretch--- think i might use that 90ftlb value. 65flt lbs like raceware wants seems to little for a boosted engine. I was at 14 psi and it let go.

You asked, so I told you what I did.

True, but obviously Bob has had success, good enough for me. I'll do the 90 90 and stop at 95 ft lbs. Which ever comes first.. One more question,,, oil on threads or ARP special lube?

Who did your engine? I'll have more questions when I get it apart. I think it would be worth a phone call to chat with someone who does sleeves . (successfully)

I used the ARP studs with the ARP lube and torqued them to 85lbs.

4K miles and so far so good.

You can also refer to a calculator like this:

http://www.futek.com/boltcalc.aspx

With 205ksi UTS studs (Raceware, etc) with a ~150ksi proof strength, and assuming the first 8 threads in the block hold most of the tension, recommended torque is between 75 ft-lbs and 93 ft-lbs, with 93 being the maximum. Just a quick calc, there's potential to factor in the actual block strength and torque degrees.

Quick Reply: Mls cosmetic and raceware studs and wet sleeved. Torque spec for that combo?
