Default 944 Turbo Not Cranking

I just acquired my first 944... an 87 and brought it home on Saturday. I am just starting to get into things, and thought the starter was bad. Pulled it, tested, passed tests, but will not consistently start. Most of the time it will not crank. I still need to test the battery, so that could be the problem, but the lights are strong.. Welcome any thoughts

faulty ignition switch? you could try jumping the starter from the small blue wire over to the large red wire and if the starter turns strong and consistent there then you should look closer ignition switch and wiring.

Does the engine turn over by hand? if the starter tested good then it should turn the motor over by jumping it at the starter. maybe try taking the plugs out to allow the motor to turn over a little easier and once you have it working properly you can reinstall the plugs and see how it goes from there. It is hard to truly bench test a starter unless there is a way to simulate the load the engine will put on it so it is still possible the starter is tired and needing to be replaced.

I have successfully started it a few times, but after shutting it off it will not crank again. The starter sounds like it is engaging, but not turning. I still need to investigate the grounds, but the lights are bright, so I think I am good there.

check the starter cables themselves. And your starter is probably bad. Test it when it's hot and see if it fails.

Well, everything seems to be pointing back to the starter, looks like this is the option...

yup, a new starter was the solution...

Now onto the next things, changing fluid, checking head gasket, seems to be a source of a small leak...
