Default Stainless Exhaust

Hi,

I'm looking for a new stainless catback exhaust system similar to the one offered by Lindsey (fabspeed system) but not the cost. $800 is way too much for such a small amount of metal. Anybody know of a cheaper system?

Thanks,

reactor2

You can get the Lindsey system with a ceramic coating to protect it inside and out (although not the muffler itself or the cat if you were to get it). Ceramic coating would contain the heat better and prevent corrosion as well as stainless would....and probably better.

My plans where to get the Stainless cat back system and then later get the ceramic coated Lindsey system for the rest of the exhaust. I wouldn't mind the whole exhaust being the ceramic coated mild steal system but the muffler and tailpipe of the stainless steal system looks much better.

I agree with you about the muffler, but the tailpipe in the pics on the Lindsey system looks different than the rest...that part may be polished already. Can't see the muffler too well in most circumstances though for it to be a huge issue....I guess some black high temp paint could take care of that though, it will be dirty very quickly anyway.....

The Flowmaster I received with mine was 321 stainless steel, so that shouldn't be a concern for you. The pipes that I received are ceramic coated, and are plenty shiny and shouldn't rust.

SFR or Lindsey, either way, I have a feeling you will like it.

Regards,

How do you like the Flowmaster sound on yours Scott? Any resonance? I know that was a big deal with the Mustang 5.0s when I used to drive them.

Turbo 944, the ceramic coated carbon steel will NOT be as good as a 304L or 321. Once the coating is breached you have plain old carbon steel. Also the carbon steel's sag resistance is way lower than 304/321 type steels. If the ceramic should come off in a qurater size section in the hot end it will die of cyclic oxidation corrosion. The Lindsey pipes are aluminum coated and that will extend the life as long as the coating remains intact.

Sometimes the cheapest mods are the more expensive ones. I have an SFR pipe on my car and it is a nice piece.

On the price issue the last 911 fender I bought was around $900.00. That fender has maybe 10 lb. of EG in in it. 10 lb. of EG in a shaped blank would be about $7.00. Out the end of the press line it's maybe worth $14.00. Think about that the next time you buy a body part.

The 321 raw tubing probably goes for around $6.00 a straight foot in the quantity most fabricators buy in. An 8 foot piece would have at least $48.00 in it. And it would take a lot longer to complete a finished part.
Fender vs. pipe .

I noticed GHL has several pipes for sell and is a Renn sponsor. Are these just out of the price range of some 944 owners (+8$00) or is there a performance issue?

A complete 3" SS was $800. The work is top notch. I would call them for a price on just a cat back.

Reactor 2, I had my last two Porsches cat back exhaust system replaced by Mufflex (609) 890-0481. I think Deny is the owner and the one you should ask for. For 495.00 I had a SS cat back exhaust with a Magniflow muffler installed on my 88 Turbo. And the installation was top notch, he even included a 90.00 special tip for the muffler for free. Reno
