Any '88 951 S or '89 951 owners using 18in Porsche Hollow Spoke Wheels ?

I have been spending way too much time deciding which wheels and tires I want to put on my 89 944 Turbo...yes I know I need a life.
The offsets are the same all of the wheels below, no fitting problems at all.
The difference in weight between the current Cup2 17in and the Turbo/Hollow spoke 18in wheels does not seem to be significant.
Cup 2 from my '95 993 (wheels and tires)
front 7x17 - 40lb
rear 9x17 - 47lb
Turbo Hollow Spoke from a '99 996 (wheels and tires)
front 7.5x18 - 42lb
rear 10x18 - 48lb
The front wheels/tires weight difference is 2lb each and the rear wheels/tires weight difference is 1lb each.
I recall reading that Porsche did not recommend putting 18in wheels on 944 Turbo cars.
If the weight difference is truly so small (1 to 2 lbs per wheel/tire combination) am I at risk stressing suspension or steering rack components ?
Is anyone running the 18in Porsche Hollow Spoke Wheels as I am intending ? Any issues...yet ?
thanks!

I have used the sport classic II wheels on my 951S. The 18" will allow you to use a wider tire (285). However the ride is stiffer and it doesn't take much to damage the wheel.
I'm not sure if the 18" wil cause any damage, but there is a reason why the factory recommends against it...

Plenty of pics of my C2's on my red '89 951 in my yahoo group page if you're curious and would like to see them on an '89 if you haven't already!
I'm not totally against 18's but haven't heard the best concerning donning them on our cars.

John
- Porsche released a tech bulletin warning aginst 18s.
- Is that document available ?
- Could a marginal weight diff of 1-2 lbs really makes a difference ?
- Will I be shocked/sprung surprised next spring ?
Corey/Cyrus
I am with you. The Cup 2s are on the 951. The age of the tires (2yr vs 8yr) made a huge difference. The Turbo Twists fit but I did not drive the car with them installed so I dont know if there will be any clearance issues.
thanks guys
