Default 944 347 011 24 (steering gear question)

on the 944 S2 there is a small rubber **** that's screwed into the bottom of this part - mine broke in half with age and fell out - does anyone know what it's purpose is and do I need to replace it? May be moot since it's not listed in the parts catalog as far as I can tell..

i have a feeling you are talking about this part...if so it's just a plug/cover for a hole in the rack.
the purpose of the hole is to insert a tool and lock the rack "on center" when doing an alignment.
