944 Auto Trans in a Track Car??

Looking at a 944 for a track toy. Thoughts on automatic transmission? It's not ideal but does anyone here track their auto trans 944?

An automatic trans reduces performance on an already underpowered car.

That said, you will learn patience and humility.
