Default '83 A/C blower fan won't switch on?

Hello,
I recently purchased an early '83 944. I have very good reason to believe the air conditioning worked just before I bought the car. But now the A/C blower fan switch (on center dash) won't turn on. I tried it with the car running and checked both fuse panels and all fuses seem intact. I would appreciate any advise on where I should look next? Relays, and if so, which ones? Will the dash blower fan switch turn on even if there is no cooling liquid in the system. It's still on Freon fluid. Thanks kindly.

Try making a very long jumper that will reach the motor from the battery.see if the motor will run that way...I used lamp cord and 2 pairs of alligator clips..one for each end of the jumper..If the motor runs, it's probably a relay. I don't
