Many folks simply glue a small washer [0.8mm] to an old sensor to set that gap.
By the way, what does, "I doubt the cat backed up ad new exhaust", mean from your first post? Your car has a new cat-back muffler? How old is the cat...is the OE, 30-yo, part still on the car? If so, guaranteed it's at least partially obstructed.
