Default P/Wdo Switches

Has anyone every experienced a bad power window switch on a 944? I have an '87 944S, and the passenger side window will only go down, not up with the power window switches. This all started last fall. The passenger side window would not go up if I used the switch for it that is on the driver's side door. It ran up fine if I used the switch on the passenger side door. So I did a little investigative work (swapped the wires between the two switches on the driver's door), and for some reason the window started working fine (even after I swapped the wires back). So I wrote it off to a corroded connection between the wiring harness and the switch.

Fast forward to this summer, and now the window will not go up at all. So I once again swapped the wires between the switches on the driver's door, and I can get the window to go up or down fine. Unfortunately, when I swapped the wires back, the window won't work.

The fact that the window ALWAYS works like a charm when I use the switch for the driver's side door makes me think that it is the switch rather than the motor or the harness. Also, the pass window is not used nearly as much as driver's side, and so the motor on the driver's side is getting most of the abuse, but still runs fine all the time.

Please let me know if you have experienced this issue at all. Seems funny that both switches have gone bad at once, but stranger things have happened.
Thanks,

James

I haven't done this but a lot of people have had good luck opening the switches and cleaning the contacts. They get a liitle cruddy and don't make good contact after a while.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried taking apart the switch, cleaning the contacts, and adding dielectric grease, but that didn't work. Also, you didn't mention how hard it was to put the switch back together!

Anyway, the window still went down, but not up. So I bought two new switches and now it works fine.

Thanks again.

Jim
