Default 944 S2 Chassis Number Range?? Can anyone help

Hi there, new to the forum.
Big hi to all.

I am in the market for an S2.
Does anyone what the serial number range was for the model?
And do the build production numbers run in sequence

Thank you ever so much for any help you can lend.

Here's a breakdown of my S2's VIN: http://www.weissach.net/WP0AB294XMN4...#Specification

It'll give you pointers on how to decode the VIN.

Default 944

Thanks Karl, that was helpful.
The car that I was looking at recently had the number 8 at the start of the serial number.
Serial Number (part 1)
0 = RoW Coupes
1 = US Coupes
3 = RoW Cabriolets
4 = US Cabriolets

I wondered what this denotes as it is not in the shortlist of the code above?

Thank you again for your reply, look forward to any suggestions/comments you care to share.

So, you are saying the VIN on the car you are looking at is something like: WP0AB294XKN48xxxx?

You do not say were you are but based on the web site, a US 944S2 have stating VIN of WP0AB294X[K,L,M]N4 The only year codes could be K, L and M.

What is the vin?

Hi Neil, thanks for you reply the VIN reads:
WPOZZZ94ZKN48****
It is just that I have never seen an 8 used as a prefix to the serial number. Has anyone?

Neither have I.

I'm a bit tied up today. But over the next day or so, I'll take another look at Peter Morgan's book and see if I can find anything...

What exact type of S2 is it? And where is it located?

Interesting. ZZZ appears to be a 1989 RoW vehicle. This got me to wondering and so I looked at the VIN on my 90.

WP0AB1940LN45...

So, my first character on the serial is 5, again this does not appear in the list.

From another RennList thread there was the following link http://www.renntech.org/images/vin_d...INDecoder.html

It was able to decode my car's vin. The 5 is Engine/Body Type S/S2 Coupé (USA spec)

I can shed some light on the S2 Cabriolet production. I have two of the early 89 S2 cabriolets and their VIN's are WPOBA2944KN480105 & WPOBA2948KN480107. Later years the VIn # has a "CB" after the WPO denoting the Cabriolet body style. Production #s sent to the USA for the 3 years made were 16 for 1989, 1824 for 1990 & 562 for 1991. Total world production of 5656 out of which 2402 went to the US.

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum too. I'm in Canada with a 1989 944 S2 Cabriolet (no airbags) with a
VIN# WP0BA0946KN480xxx. The car was sold in Ontario, Canada in July 1989.
So I don't know if this car was part of the 16 US 1989 Cab count or not. I mention no airbags because I'm not clear if 1989 S2 Cabs without airbags could be shipped to the US. Obviously they were permitted in Canada (mine has metric speedo/odometer) as well. Don't know if anyone can shed light on the BA0 designation or the 8 before the last 0xxx serial number.
Cheers
