I'm a recent 944 owner and noticed that both windows when they go up and down at one or two locations kinda of hesitate and then catch again and continue moving. Is this the early signs of something about to fail? Thanks for feedback.
I had a similar problem on our 1990 944 S2. The problem turned out to be worn gear teeth on the window regulator assembly. The most straightforward repair is to replace the regulator assembly with a new or used unit. We actually repaired ours by very carefully mig welding additional material onto the worn gear teeth and then recontouring the shape with a small die grinder. The repaired mechanism has worked perfectly since.
Be very careful when working with the regulator assembly. It is spring loaded and can do considerable damage to your body parts if the motor drive gear disengages from the regulator gear. Hope this helps!
Yo Fred,
I'm afraid I have the same problem as wildporscheguy so will tear into it and see what happens. Thanks for the tip for what to look for. I was thinking maybe it just needed some lubrication but sounds like it will be a bit more involved.
Before you do that, try lubricating the window runner (felts) spray some SILICONE LUBRICNT not oil or WD, liberally into the runners slide yje window up and donw a few times and see if that improves things, if not then I'd go with the other suggestion
