Unhappy A/C Clutch cycling

HELP!! OkI have switched this to this forum since it is more specific. My A/C is AFU. While driving along you can here the A/C kicking in and out. I went under the car. Both fans work and the condensor is clear. I hooked up a gauge to the low side. Starting pressure was at 50psi. Turned on a/c pressure dropped 10psi then the clutch kicks off. Pressure increased back to 50psi clutch back on,..etc. On the high side the pressure increased up to 400 psi +. Help, Any ideas out there?

To make my first post clear the pressure on the low side went from 50 psi to 40 psi a total drop of 10 psi.

Not sure about all of the technical information you cited, but it is fairly common to hear and feel the AC kicking in and out.

As long as your car is cooling properly, I would not worry. If it is not cooling properly, then perhaps another lister will give you better direction.

I just got my AC fixed and it took awhile to get used to the sensations of it cutting on and off again. At first I thought that the hesitation I was experiencing was a sign of trouble, then I remembered that this is the way the AC on these cars tend to work.

If your A/C is not cooling, you may have air in the system. Best bet is to take it to an expert and let him/her evacuate the system and check for leaks, then recharge. Should be less than $100.

Saw this same thing with my car yesterday. The clutch was actually kicking out on HIGH pressure. I vented some gas (R-134) and got the suction down to about 32 psi and the compressor stayed on.

Maybe your system is over-charged?
