Question Mirror wiring

I need to replace the drivers side mirror on my 86 NA. Mirror is broken and plastic tabs to motor are broken. I am getting a complete replacement mirror. My shell is fine. Question-can the wiring be detatched at mirror head and/or inside door? And if so where? I have not opened up door yet. Any help appreciated.

You are sure you want to replace the entire mirror, it isn't possible just to replace the broken components inside the mirror? However a complete removal procedure is posted at www.clarks-garage.com

Tip: spray some WD40 behind the mirror glass and in the connector, this will ease the removal of the mirror and the connector pins. Be sure to mark the position of the wires before you push them out of the connector.

Thank you 944TARGA-FAN!!!! That is just the information I have been searching for. I have replacement mirror coming from a good e-bay buy. If my mirror head is in better shape then I'll just replace the insides. Thanks again.
