Post 944S Differences

Hello all,
I am new to the board and Porsche as well, although a car nut all my life. I just bought a 944S as a Project car. It has the apparently common chain tensioner failure. But my question today is what are the differences, besides the 16V engine, between the 944N/A and the S model <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

Essentially the difference is the 16V motor and the transmission (stronger with differemt ratios). Brakes and suspension are the same, options are the same. Minor differences are the "16 ventilier" strip on the front fender and the higher redline on the tach. I hope you got a good price as chain tensioner failure isn't exactly minor. Good luck and enjoy when the project is done.

Hey Stephen welcome to the S family! <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" /> You should get a p-caronline profile at <a href="http://www.p-caronline.com" target="_blank">www.p-caronline.com</a> and post pictures. Hope everything works out getting the head replaced. BTW, did this take out the camshafts too or just crack the head?

I'd suggest reading (or more accurately wading) through the following FAQs:

<a href="http://www.weissach.net/924-944-968_FAQs.html" target="_blank">http://www.weissach.net/924-944-968_FAQs.html</a>

I'd also recommend buying the following book as its a good compilation of magazine tests of the 944:

<a href="http://www.brooklandsbooks.com/pages/porsche944.html" target="_blank">http://www.brooklandsbooks.com/pages/porsche944.html</a>

Karl.

PS - The main 924/944/951/968 forum gets far more traffic than this 944 & 944S2 forum.

Finally Got the Head repaired. It was by a very nice Porsche mechanic\machinist in Smyrna Georgia.
He is presently doing the valve job and I Have all the other parts on the way. May have it running by next weekend. I am really looking forward to it. (Maybe it will help me get over selling my 79 Chevy custom Pickup.)
