Sponsorship is a good thing. Keep that guy happy, Chris. BTW, the company I work for, Final Touch Graphics, does vinyl and digital graphics if you want to spice up that orange exterior some. I, too, started stripping the interior from my new 944 today. It IS fun getting it race ready. TC

Locally here one of our racers is lawyer for an oil company. Trademark I think. He ran the 76 on his 914 when autocrossing. He said he gave himself the rights !
Anyway good luck on the build up.
Personally I think the build-up is all part of the fun of these cars. Also the more work you do yourself the better you will learn your car and easier it will be if you are out at the track and for whatever reason your builder is not there to help.
I basically built my car from the ground-up!

Well, Derrek, since you are technically sponsoring the car, I *suppose* I could let you put some graphics on the thing... I'd have to check with my partner ... anyway, I can't think of a good idea for sprucing up the car yet. Atari was rad, I thought. Anyone have any fun ideas that would appeal to us kids? (I'm 22, partner is 21). It should be simple enough that we can just get some vinyl cut and put that on...

I just built a web site for the construction of my 944 spec car, so if anyone wants to follow along as things happen, this would be the place to be:
944 Spec Car Page
For convienence, I registered the domain www.944speccar.com - but the DNS servers haven't switched it over yet, so you will need the link above to access it (for now).

Work has officially begun on the Huntley Racing / Paradox Engineering Formula 944 ... so updates are now on the web site... also, the DNS servers clicked over, so you can access the site at www.944speccar.com

Derrek, We'll be racing with the POC. There will be at least 3 944's at Vegas from the Phoenix area. More cars will be ready throughout the year. The rules will closely mirror the 2 Phoenix groups' rules because we want to be able to run with them, but ultimately, our rules have to be agreed upon by our customers out here. FORMULA 944 will,to a large extent, be governed by driver consensus. This has been extremely successful in other series I have managed and it should work well here. It helps keep the customers(drivers) happy. BTW, thanks for helping Chris Williams get a chassis going. Bright orange should be wild!

Chris!
Good to see that chassis finaly going to work, it was such a clean car before the rod thru the block misshap. From what I can remember, the owner brought it over (after he threw the rod), then bailed...leaving Derrek with the chassis and no paperwork...the guy just vanished.. I'm glad Derrek held on to it...It will race again!!!
Good job!

Chris,
Cool site! If I had website skills I could have done that with my build-up.
FYI - There is PCA Club Race here in Phoenix Feb 22,23 at PIR. The event is being hosted by NASA so in Addition to the PCA groups will be a bunch of 944-spec cars running for Points. Looks like there will be 1 sprint race Saturday and 1 sprint and 1 60 min enduro Sunday for the PCA groups and the NASA Group.
Since it is 944-spec point event I will be running the NASA group.
Tim, John, Derek, Chris,
I know that you guys are pretty heavily involved in the POC, but this PCA/944-spec event should be pretty interesting. You guys should be able to race your assorted P-cars and get chance to see more of the Spec cars. My guess right now is that we should have anywhere from 6-12 944-spec cars for that event.
As you can tell I am really looking forward to the Feb 22,23 event at PIR!
Hopefully we can meet-up at a track event one of these days!

WOW, I see a lot of names here that I've ran across over the last few years of my Porsche life. . . . Anderson, Huntley, etc. Wish I'd came here before now. Does anyone know what goes on in 944 racing in Colorado??? I need to add to my signature "'83 944" and "'76 911s".
I posted a brake question about my 944. If you read it you'll figure out that I'm going to have plenty more questions in the future. But for now I'll stick to the most important. . . STOPPING.

Its kind of a good thing that the rod went through the block... you see, if Derrek had built the motor, it might have actually lasted, which would mean no race car for me... so its a good thing that the car self destructed. The funny thing is that the guy actually gave Derrek the papers... I can't believe that someone would just sign a car over to someone for free ... even if all it needed was a rebuild ($$$), and of course a new block ($400).
BTW, did you all know that TCRA changed their classification system now? Its a good thing these cars have 2.4xxL instead of 2.5L (for those of us who are planning on driving with TCRA anytime soon). Ok, I'm off to go clear my schedule every weekend starting in June...

Chris,
Absolutely a good car to transform. I did not intend it to sound like the block was a failure on Huntleys behalf, I hope it did not come off like that. Derrek had nothing to do with the car or its motor, he just got stuck with the shell, and no papers..but its good the guy sent them. I just know the car, the guy that owned it was quite a flake...here today, gone tomorow..then back again..And it is great to see you take the task of puting out on the track, where it belongs!
I remember it had some front end damage, are you going fiberglass front end?
Take Care!

Fiberglass front end = VERY illegal for formula racing... I tagged a truck in a parking lot, putting a dent in my fender, so I'm taking this opportunity to put some widebody fibereglass fenders on my 951, and putting the stock fenders on the formula car.
The real damage we will have to deal with is a giant dent in the passenger side door, and a dent on the hood (the guys from Weldtec took turns riding their bicycles over the car at one point). Anyway, its lots of work, and that's how I'm spending Friday and Saturday
