Post What speakers fit 1983 944 doors?

Does anybody know of a decent aftermarket speaker which will fit in the 1983 Porsche 944 doors?

By this, I mean no cutting or modifications. I got a set out of a later 944, but they are too deep and hit the track for the power window mechanism. One of them also was jusnk and didn't work, so I am looking for something which will.

Thanks,

Hi John, I got a pair of Alpine 4 x 6's from Crutchfield. There is only 1 5/8 inches of clearance on early 944's with power windows and these Alpines are the only aftermarket speakers I have found that are thin enough to fit without bulging the speaker grill out.

The Best thing i have found is a nice set of 3.5 inch speakers. you have to drill small screw holes, but a nice set (i have mb quart) of 3.5 inch's is a lot easier to find and better quality then whatever 4x6's you can manage to find that fit if you can even do that.

I have these, only last year's model:

<a href="http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-17APmM8ZVYY/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=51400&I=023TSX462&o=m&a=0" target="_blank">http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-17APmM8ZVYY/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=51400&I=023TSX462&o=m&a=0</a>

I haven't had much listening time on them, but they sounded pretty good. Much better than the crappy 20 year old stock ones in there.

I'm bringing this back to life. The 84 doors seem to be different than my 83. No 4x6" speakers fit, none that I can find. They bulge out 1/4". The only way to use 4x6 is a custom cover, and I'm looking around.
Does someone have a solution for 1983 ??

Aren't the early cars ('83) manual windows? Also, is this an issue of clearance between the speaker and the window (rolled down) inside the door or an issue of the speaker cover and/or clearance between the door and the side of the dashboard? Maybe a photo would help here.

I have aftermarket 4x6 speakers in the front and the cover fit fine and no issue with clearance inside the door (clearance with the window rolled down). I had to do some searching but found some Polk Audio 4x6 speakers that were 'low profile' and didn't protrude too far into the door. I think there were some Pioneers with similar specs too (about 4 years ago).
