Red face Clang, crunch, bang, gring, etc......

Ok, who has a nice cheap used transaxle for our '84 ? Pulled away from a stop sign, no hard acceleration, shifted into second, easy throttle application, Clang, crunch, bang, ..... eased to the curb and found that in neutral or with the clutch out the engine revs smoothly with no ominous sounds. Engage any gear and ease the clutch out a little and the horrendous noises start up. The car will kind of lurch a long but I only moved it another 20 feet or so to clear the roadway. Hoped for the easy CV joint fallen off or something like that but the axles are both secure.
A rebuild of ours or a rebuilt unit will be well over 1K and that is impossible right now so I am hoping that someone on the list has one that is still got a few miles left on it . I know about the taller 5th gear problems trying to use a turbo transaxle in an NA model but is it something we could live with for a few months ? Just trying to weigh options.

You could check eBay at these links: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2403735861&category=33733" target="_blank">1984 Porsche 944 Manuel Transmission</a> , <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2403781352&category=33733" target="_blank">Porsche 944 5-Speed Transmission</a> , <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2403781393&category=33733" target="_blank">Porsche 944 5-Speed Transmission</a> . The last two are at PAR on the right right coast. Since you are a left coaster then Anderson Motors may be the way to go. Plus he's a sponsor.
