Is a turbo conversion possible for a 84 944?

The basic question is, are you set on keeping your 944, or would you move up to a 951? If you already have a suspension setup you have invested in and are happy with, you might not want a 951.

Keep in mind, the turbo has a stronger gearbox, and better clutch. These are things you should think about. A 250 hp low boost/9.7:1 setup could work very well for you, but you will need a tranny that is up to snuff. I would say get a 951 LSD tranny, or a G31 931 tranny.

You know, that's a good point, followed by the fact that if you have a really nice, well cared for, reliable 944, you might have a hard time finding a similar condition 951 from what I read on the mailing list.

Also, if you have custom work in, like lightweight panels, coil overs, big brakes, heavy duty clutch... You probably wouldn't want to start all over again.

If you are skilled at building motors and custom work, you could do it yourself in your garage. If not, it would probably be better to get a 951 motor to start with...
