944 S2 60,000 Mile Service Prices
Hello,
First time posting to the boards, just wondering any feedback on what you guys have paid or what would be a fair price to have a 60,000 mile service done on a 91 S2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also thinking of putting S03 Pole Position tires on the car, Any Opinions??? Thanks again. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I would say around $750 to $900. You are looking at Timing Belt, H2O pump, Balance Shaft belt, PS, Alt/AC belt. It's a little overkill, but I tend to err on the safe side. It's just like the Mr. Goodwrench commerical...You can pay a little now, or... Without knowing if you are the original owner or have recent service reciepts it's hard to say what else you would need. I would probably flush and fill all fluids, as well as think about front seals and the cam chain tensioner. Porsche never has come out with a maintenance interval for this piece, but if it goes, you are totally screwed. The tensioner by itself is ~$316 and you'll need a new cam cover gasket set ~$55. If you've got things off it's cheaper and saves some time by just doing it all at once. Good Luck!

Thanks For the Info, anyone else have some input? I bought the car in Nov. 2001 and It had 56,000 miles on it. The previous owner changed the timing belts and and other basic service at 48,000 miles. The car is in perfect shape otherwise. I flushed and filled coolant and did oil change at 56,500. Should I go to the Dealer or an independant? Any Input on the tires to get??? Thanks in advance...

If you're absolutely sure that the PO had the T & B belts done @ 48K, they likely just need inspection & tensioning, and you should be good there for another 18 to 28K (opinions vary). Inspect for water pump leaks.
If you've done oil & coolant, you still need to do power steering, brake / clutch, & tranny fluid changes.
Inspect brake pads, CV boots, oil cooler hoses, general check for oil / coolant leaks.
Maybe a good time to consider replacing dist. cap, plug wires, plugs, esp. if you're into preventative maintenance.
And an inspection of the all-important cam chain tensioner... my 968's upper ramp showed no significant wear at ~60K, but horror stories exist. I was able to re-use the original cam cover gasket.
The quality & knowledge of dealership techs varies, especially on our cars If you get a good one, it's worth the price. Otherwise, find a good indie shop that has someone who knows these cars. Ask other P-car drivers, ask the counter help at an import-specialist parts shop.
No useful opinions on tires, sorry.
Jim, dam'... it's Monday again already! Yuck!
