Remember you get what you pay for. Make sure you use a certified porsche mechanic and don't let them use cheap imitation parts. I have heard some horror story's about cheap clutch's. The labor is your biggest expense so you only want to do it once.

It really isn't that bad, I spent about 5 afternoon/evenings with a good friend doing it. Parts were about $600. Just take your time and read the various tutorials out there, and ask here, we'd be happy to help.

Mark, I feel your pain. Went through that years ago, trying to find a good Porsche mechanic until I met one in the San Fernando Valley, who can do a na 944, including clutch (sachs) for under $800. All he does is work on 944's. He lives and sleeps dreaming of 944. I was so glad to find him and I will never go to a German or European shop again. Email me and I will get you his number. He can rebuild your engine for less then the clutch job you were quoted. He also does stereo installations and can build you a kick A%% system. He also has a bad blue 955 turbo pushing 500 HP, you have to see it, and it’s beautiful.

Burning Brakes
I just had my clutch done at a local sports car specialist. The clutch plate ,cover and bearing cost about £275.00 from Berlyn Services and the garage charged about £250.00 for doing the job but......... that 8 hour labour charge included taking the engine out and doing the cylinderhead gasket and skimming the head as well!
Naturally they didn't charge all the labour because I know it took them 2 days work
If anyone wants the garage |No in Somerset UK I'll be happy to oblige/
