Default PORSCHE lettering between the taillights

Hi all
I am a long time rennlist user but this is my first 944 post, I am a Porsche 928 retiree who is looking to buy a 944.
I got a question:
I have seen some Porsche 944 with a Large PORSCHE lettering between the taillights. Please see the attachment. Is this a modification or a factory option?
Thank you'

Chamilka

If you can usually find one they go for pretty cheap. Most people don't like them and take them off.

The light should come with the lighted licence plate as the middle piece is where your l/p light is.

I've got the "944" center piece. It's lit too. For some reason it's in perfect condition despite its Arizona life. I love it!

As for info on these center pieces:

-It is aftermarket, meaning 80's aftermarket. Haha seemed very popular, to the point where I suspect it was a dealer installed thing.
-In order to install one, you must drill a series of holes, like 5 or something, and rivet it into place. That's why people don't generally take them off (unless you have those nekkid lady trucker silhouette stickers - they appear to cover up the holes perfectly but that's another story... [SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT POST A LINK!])

Anyone know where to find the bulbs to replace the 2 old ones? Can't find them anywhere.

I looked in all the parts books and can't find a part number for this. I'm probably not searching the right word for it. Anyone know what its called or the part number?

I have one too..uninstalled.. I think I’ll put in LEDs in place of the bulbs… perhaps get past the hole drilling. Pretty occupied back there with all the linkage for the hatch opening..

These are an aftermarket accessory, though dealers would install them. My dealer installed one on my car when I purchased it new.
