Hi

Sorry for the noob question, but my transmission has given out and I'm getting ridiculously low offers on the car for sale as is.

Seems better to fix it myself so I was wondering which transmissions I should be looking for Ebay etc.

All reasonable ideas appreciated ...

all 1985.5 and later transmissions will bolt up and work. The turbo, s2, s, and 1988 944 has different ratios. The earlier transmissions will bolt up and work but the speedometer drive is not there so your speedo won't work with those trannies.
