I need some help....
We are building a 1983 944 for the track. (Please don't ask why!!) What needs to be done as far a PM goes? I know the timing belt is an issue. I was going to change every 5000 miles. Any other suggestions??
Also...no leaks and the car has a new clutch. I plan to leave stock.....
Thank you.

There's an rapidly growing 944 Spec class in Texas - check the NASA forums, and 944Spec.org forums.
A lot depends on the basic condition of the car - bushings, etc.
Mechanically, a new timing belt is a must. In Texas especially, an oil cooler, and a new water pump with those belts would be a very good idea. If you're going to race it, or run it on the track a lot, new rod bearings are smart. If you're going to rebuild the motor, there's things like cross drilling the crank to be done.
Welcome to the world of 944's!
