making a turbo out of an s2...

first off, i know everyone is just gonna tell me how i should have just bought a turbo to begin with but this is the route i've started and im just gonna stick with it but have a few questions...
so i have one of the 1985.5 944 s2's, ive decided that i like the turbo, the power, the different front end and well everything but cant afford to just trade up out right so ive decided to just drop a turbo engine in it, swap out the front end and give her a nicer set of wheels. benefit being that i can do it over time and get it the way i want it without having to spend several thousand dollars all at once, i just want to make sure these things i have planned are even possible.
Ive found good as new turbo engines on ebay for as low as 1500 and that's an easy for my turbo desires but can i fit a turbo engine in an s2 frame?
again ive found a few turbos out there that have been totaled from the rear and been put of for sale for pennies and this would give me all the front end cosmetics i would need to put the turbo front end on her but again is the swap something that is even possible?
i really appreciate the help...

if you have an S2 then its very similar body/brakes/suspension as a turbo, even the bolt holes for the intercooler are there, but I thought S2's only came out from 1989, maybe you have an S...

Either the year or the model is incorrect in your post. The s2 was not imported to the US until 1989. The 944S was not made in 1985.5.
If you have an S2 the bodywork is the same as the turbo.
If you have a 1985.5 944 the bodywork is different. The structure of the car is the same, the mechanicals of engine, suspension, transmission and electricals are all different.
Try a search on this site there are plenty of stories of this conversion.

Dude its a Porsche everything costs a couple grand... I just bought mine and its a 90 S2 and let me tell you every small part is 100 bucks and every major part starts at 300... Just sell your 85 and buy an 87-89 turbo... I see them all the time on craigslist for less than 4000... so yourself the time and money and just buy one... theres one i seen on there and in person since its close to my house hes asking 3300 on the sign on the car tho hes asking 4000 so im betting 3000 maybe less could take it home... and 1990 and 1991 year models are the only year for the S2; S2 has a 3.0L 16 Valve all other years have lesser displacement...

give you 2 POV's
1> the best /cheapest and most sane option is dont, just get a turbo, and do that up, it'll be just as Porscha intended
2> I admire people who try the difficult and impoosible, you will learn a lot, and get satisfaction to doing it, dont listen to people say it cant be done... cos it plainly can
just be aware, you'll need a big wallet, some serious tools and knowledge
and all depends on what you want out of it.
Here in the UK, a guy at work, gets so much ribbing on his car... some mazda, spent over £6000 which he'll never get back and the cars not even worth a grand... but he knows every nut and bolt and hes got satisfaction from it.
good luck whatever route you go

Is your 89 Labeled an S2..? Supposedly there was 970 imported into the US for 89 but I never seen one titled as an 89... Mine was made in 89 too but is titled as a 90 and the VIN matches the 90 year code which is better for me since in 90 only 449 were imported; making it the 3rd rarest imported into the USA...
The supposed 89 S2 Cab is first and the 90 Turbo is second above the 90 S2... None the less porsche introduced the S2 as a 90 model year car... which does mean they sell them in 89 they still do this to this day pre-year end car sales... So what do I have to ask you..?

Yes you can put the turbo engine in your car BUT the wiring & computer are different turbo also has better brakes, going faster means need to stop quicker,
suspension is better and so on. What they are trying to tell you is you will spent more and get less if you do it
