968 DME on a 944S2... fuel and cam timing?
I'm dealing with a 1991 944S2 fitted with a 1995 968 DME/Harness/MAF. It does run (and IS quite drivable) but something's not quite right. Under load, it seems the fuel supply's timing is off.
Is the 968 DME's injector timing programmed to coincide with the variable cam/valve timing? Could this be why it's running strangely under load?
If so, is this something that can be fixed by modifying the ePROM in the DME to eliminate the VarioCam mapping of the fuel injector timing?
If so, does anyone know of someone who can do this?

Hey Miles I already replied to you through other channels but it would definately take some re working and trial and error to get a chip right that could defeat the problems on your 968 computer in a S2. It would take a few tries of burning a chip then driving to get it right, also I am not sure there are many people around that would know how to deal with this. You might try contacting Russell on the 951 forum as he deals with alot of chip programing and such on those cars. I would figure at least $400 to get it right an several weeks of switching chips back and forth into car. Or you could try this setup and get some extra reliability and HP under the hood?
I have just torn down a 3 liter 1994 968 engine with 84K miles last night. I am using the short block with crank for a project. However the cylinder head, intake manifold, mass air sensor, exhaust manifold, pistons, rods, engines wiring harness, fuel rail w/injectors, bellhousing, factory clutch, PP and flywheel along with all hardware sensors, misc. brakets etc... are for sale as a package preferably?
$1,200
This is almost everything needed for a swap onto a 1989 2.7 or 944 S2 engine and take advantage of the extra 20+ HP. You would only really need the 968 DME computer to make this setup work. This head is very clean and gauanteed to be straight with perfect valves and variocam setup. The chain ramps on the head look great but I would update while doing the head job on your 944. The pistons and rods are in excellent shape as this engine had perfect bores. PM with your e-mail if interested in purchasing & finding out more and getting pictures.
Thanks

I would say from my VW experince and swaps that you should have taken the whole head and bolted it on to your block... and while your in there get a heavy duty head gasket and Raceware head studs...

Well... at the time...
Well, at the time, I didn't have the head. Now I do, and I'm in the process of prepping the block and head surfaces for installation. I have a wide fire ring head gasket I plan to use.

We offer a PiggyBack that allows you to alter fuel and ignition. You can even control the Variocam if desired. No need to change chips.
