Stone Guard Removal--1988 944 S
I'm just returning to Rennlist and 944 ownership after an 8 or so year absence. Picked up a nice '88 S a few months ago which I'm just starting to get into now. I scanned as many threads as I could and couldn't find definitive info, but still apologize if I'm covering old ground:
What's the best way to get old, original, cracked stone guards off my car? Should I replace or leave the areas uncovered? Currently I have 6 jigsaw puzzle-looking stone guards on my paint that really look bad. I spent 10 minutes with my fingernail this afternoon and got about 1/4" total off one guard, a small chip at a time. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Otherwise the car is great and I'm loving it. New Cup II's with Michelin Pilot Sports should be arriving tomorrow!
Thanks.

I've heard that a heat gun, carefully applied, and a rubber spatula work wonders. For the remaining glue, alcohol mixed with a little water (I seem to recall a 50-50 mixure) works too.
