944S2 Engine Value
I have a '91 944 S2 engine with 77K miles on it. With the exception of a burned piston in cylinder 2, it's in good shape. I'm told the head, crank and block have value. What should I expect to be able to sell it for?

Burning Brakes
Thats a good question, its hard to say considering what needs to be done to that #2, BUT, im in the market for an engine, so let me know if you decide on a price!

Burning Brakes
I would be really interested if you could send me some pics perhaps - trouble with a burnt piston is that it doesnt usually occur without putting some other things under high heat too so you could have burned the cylinder or one of the valves in the head(exhaust!), and then there's the question of why it happened in the first place...
With that in mind, did you put too low a grade fuel in it, or maybe an injector is going bad...I doubt timing would be the culprit, and the S2 has active knock control anyways...
Put up some pics of the bore! Are S2's a Nickesil or Alusil finish? I know they are a hypereutectic aluminum, wonder at what temperature you'd have to be at to start to mess with the metallurgy...

At this point the engine is still in the car and I hadn't planned on tearing it apart to do a post mortem. After it died, we did a compression check and all was well except for #2. We then put a scope down the spark plug hole and you could see a small burned hole on the #2 piston. I never ran anything other than premium. I suspect (but do not know) that it was the injector going bad.
