Default Humming sound coming from under the hood

Hi everybody. New guy here.

I have a strange humming sound coming from the engine bay when at low engine load. Used to be rare but it's getting more and more often. As soon as I accelerate more, it stops. The performance does not appear to be affected. I did notice this the first time shortly after replacing the timing belt and water pump but not sure if there is a relation with the noise. I drive a 89 S2 with 115000 miles on it. Any ideas?

Is it around 1200-1400 rpm range with a slight resonance vibration in the Steering wheel?

No, I can't say I feel anything related to this noise in the steering wheel. It could be at low RPM I will have to pay attention next time and come back to you. The noise does go away as soon as I step on the gas. Do you think it's related to the power steering pump?

I have the vibration on th 944S2 and now its started on the 968... I tried to isolate it, and it seems to point to the powersteering,

I would guess a slightly tight or loose balance shaft belt. Same symptome you have described. It made the most noise when cold. I just adjusted belt tension until it was as quiet as I could get it. Eventually noise disappeared.

I have a similar issue. After chaning water pump, timing belt, pulleys, and seals, my car made a humming noise. But mine is pretty loud and doesn't stop with throttle...it sounds like a super charger. I had it tensioned at a shop, so i don't think it's the belt, but I did get a rebuild water pump (which everyone says not to do). Did you get new or used? Anyone else have any issues with this
