I have an 89 944 S2. The catalytic converter has started to rattle iinternally and I think I need to replace it. The dealer part is very expensive ($1100) and may not be available anymore.

Does anyone have any advice? I know there are units available. Do the universal converters fit properly and do the job? Where should I get one and approximately what should I expect to pay? Will the job require welding?
