Just purchased a 944, I am hoping that someone can give me some direstion. It overheats in a short amount of time, and the fans do not seem to turn on. Can anyone give me any suggestions where to start?
Thanks

If the fans aren't turning on, that could very well be the problem. It sounds like you didn't have any Pre-Purchase Inspection done on this car? You're best bet is to find a good independent Porsche shop and have a complete inspection done on your newly purchased 944 and get full picture on any possible issues with your car. You may learn to do a lot of things yourself on your 944 as you get more familiar with it, but I'd say right now you probably need a good professional to give the car a once-over. Good luck!

I have a problem with my car. The temp gauge will go all the way up and stick there. If you tap on the plastic shield it will return to normal. I never really know how hot the engine is.

Ginos944: Replace your thermostat and coolant temperature sensor. Sounds like your thermostat may have a broken spring and not opening to allow your coolant to cycle through your radiator.
Dillon410021: Sounds like you have a bad coolant temperature sensor along with issues with your gauges.

The 944 is a bit finicky when it comes to bleeding air from the system. If a coolant change was done an not bleed correctly you can have trapped air in head which will cause overheating.
See http://www.clarks-garage.com/ under the Garage Manual for Cooling System Draining, Filling, and Venting
Also having a weak or old or cracked pressure cap can cause it to over heat.
As cbseven mentions, the thermostat can also go.
A clogged radiator may also be an issue with an older car if the wrong coolant was used.
The last possible cause could be a bad head gasket. Check your oil and oil fill. If you find milkshake foam this is your problem.
Good luck
