Default 1st gear problems 87 944s

the rookie has noticed that getting into first gear is a problem until the engine has heated up a bit.. I usually go thru all gears when first starting and this seems to help get into gear..any suggestions as to what is hanging up..?? I,ve been told that the clutch and throw out plate are new, but as of yet have not seen the paper work..

It sounds like the first gear synchro is worn. Only way to fix that is to rebuild the transmission.

If the first gear is really bad, you should try changing the transmission fluid.

On my '89 S2, the needle bearings inside the first gear had started to stick and rough up the surfaces. It was hard to get into first, and if I turned it off while still in first it would be hard to pull the shifter out of first. I was getting an lsd installed, and fortunately my mechanic noticed it, I couldn't guess why.
