Default S2 engine with carburettors in 924

I have recently purchased a 944S2 engine with LSD tranny and transaxle. The engine was in a fire so every bit of plastic has melted (injectors, belts, sensors, wires, etc.).

The engine will be rebuild and put into a Porsche 924 (Carrera GT Look). When finished it will be a Porsche 924 S2 Carrera GT

I was wondering what problems I would come upon when replacing the injection with carburettors.
I won't have to buy a lot of parts that have melted in the fire and the result will be awesome (I think).

Just out of interest, why do you want to replace the injection system with carburettors?

I expect it to perform better with carburettors. It certainly sounds better with carburettors. And it cleans up the engine bay pretty drastically. Oh, and I think it's cheaper to go for the carburettors in stead of buying new injectors, throttle body, AFM, etc.

The TR6 I used to have was fitted with both injection and carbs (over it's lifetime, not at once!), and although the injection was Lucas (A good excuse for dumping it!), the carbs did perform better. I think Bosch have somehow got injection a bit better since then, but certainly putting carbs on a 944 engine could be nice.

I would suspect you would come up againt some obstacles when dumping the motronic though. how to get timing/advance and spark, how to get the thing to fit under the hood without an expensive custom manifold, etc.... IMHO, try to find the melted bits, and rebuild as it should be! It all sounds a bit much.

I would honestly be very surprised if a good carb set up was any cheaper or any more powerful than the standard fuel injection system. You can probably get a cheap-ish manifold, throttle body and airbox from a specialist Porsche breakers for less than a weber carb set up. Remember that with carbs you would need somebody to fabricate a custom manifold, which wouldn't be cheap because of the way it would have to curve over to clear the bonnet.

If you have a big budget and want the best fueling set up possible, then why not consider independent throttle bodies ? They look and sound like carbs but don't have the draw backs!

@Steve PH: You are right! I have made up my mind last weekend and I am going for a DTA system with individual throttle bodies.
