Hi all, long time lurker, finally picked up a 944 and now slowly working my way through all the POs botches, the bonnet catch spring has been cut off, and now trying to make a replacement. Would appreciate if someone could pop the bonnet and just hold up a tape measure for the length.
Car at other house, so cannot measure for you right now. I wonder why you would try to fabricate this when it should be dirt cheap getting a used assembly from one of the well known 944 salvage yards. Names bandied about here frequently include plyhammer, lart, dr911, etc.

I googled quite a bit but could only find whole assemblys for sale for quite a bit. Do you know what that exact piece is called?
Looks like Porsche sells the replacement as an assembly, not individual pieces. It is called the Lock Upper Part, Lid Lock, part number 94451102900.or 477823507, but you probably already knew that. The $50 and under used assemblies on ebay look like crap, but you might find one that has a decent spring you can transfer to your existing assembly (with patience and plenty of penetrating oil.) The spring itself looks tricky to fabricate as it has multiple diameters.
I would probably sit tight until a nicer looking used assembly at a reasonable price crops up, then pounce on it.
@orig944 Pretty much yeah, the state of some of the ones on eBay UK make me believe that the rest of the car must've rusted away and that's all that was left!
Found a guy selling a decentish one for €30, so going to go for that. The latching bolt doesn't seem that complex, I have some bits from other cars so yeah, I was going to try to make it work.
