Default Can’t access one 19mm bellhousing bolt. Help please

Hi all. I’m working on a 1983 944 Auto, replacing the transmission dampener. Having removed the transmission, the next task is to separate the bell housing from the engine. There is one 19mm bolt that i am having real difficulty getting a tool on to properly - the one top left up above the starter motor. No room to get a ring spanner on, can’t get a socket on squarely, etc etc. So any advice from those who have undone this bolt with engine in car much appreciated.

(Note: this is not the “have undone bellhousing cannot pull bellhousing clear of engine” clutch fork fouling problem - this is more basic, can’t undo one particular bellhousing bolt). Thanks all. David

When I was not dropping the entire drivetrain, I used an obstruction wrench, like the one below.

Hi 931guru, thanks for your suggestion. I don’t see how I could both fit and rotate one of those tools on this particular bolt. I’ll give it a go anyway. Cheers. David

The other option is to use a 19 mm socket on the end of a very long 1/2 inch drive extension with a U joint or wobble joint at the bolt end o fthe extension.

It may also help to use two extensions, one just long enough to reach the bolt and a longer extension (with the U joint in between the two extensions.)

Long extensions and universal joints (and alot of patience) is what I used

Definitely wasn't fun thats for sure

Hi all. Job done! Used a 6-sided 19mm socket welded to an L-shaped steel bar, with a long handle for leverage. Thanks all for your suggestions. Cheers. David

To a guy with a welder, every job becomes a welding job.
