Tachometer seem unreliable and inaccurate
Hello,
I have a 1983 944 NA, my Tachometer seems to be very unreliable and makes me feel like it’s inaccurate. I’ve found the cable at the back of the DME that gives signal to the DME that controls the Tachometer. (At least I think that’s the cable that does that) Everything time a touch it or move it the tachometer starts bouncing around and sometimes even goes to zero and stays there. The same goes for the MPG gauge. Is there something I can do/replace to make this tachometer more reliable?

Burning Brakes
from your description it sounds like you have a poor connection at the DME .
Many owners like to mess about with poking multimeter prongs into the DME connector with the result that the DME connectors get spread apart slightly which gives an intermittent connection.
I would check the connector terminals on both the DME and the DME connector and the associated wiring before taking the dash apart and replacing the Tacho.
