1985 944 Oil Leak
Hi All - I'm trying to find the source of a leak in the vicinity of the bracket that mounts the power steering pump. The oil leaking is motor oil - my steering fluid if red.
I took a pic of it with oil and then another pic dry (after I cleaned it)
I thought maybe the oil relief valve - so I pulled it and put a new crush washer on it - still getting oil.
I put a small mirror up there to see if I could find anything - nothing I could find.
I had it on a lift with the engine running... I took a few minutes for the oil to start coming out.
The oil filter is dry as is the base of the filter mount.

Could be a lot of possibilities, but front balance shaft seals would be a prime culprit as well as the oil cooler housing or possibly the balance shaft housing seal.
If you do the front balance shaft seal, youll also want to do the upper as well as the oil pump housing, front main, and pump gear seals (called a "front engine reseal")

Here's a video from my endoscope. It is taken above and around the oil pressure relief valve. The video is not great - shaky. I took it with the engine running. Maybe someone will see something I don't see.
