Default odometer not working?

I have a 1987 NA 944, the odometer hadn't worked before, turns out one of the gears was missing teeth. I replaced it, it worked fine for about 70 miles, but it stopped working again. so i took it apart, but nothing seemed broken or out of place. I put ot back together, not sure what to expect, and it turned for 3 miles before stopping again... not sure what causes this, maybe the odometer motor is bad. the speedometer works fine, but odo and trip do not turn at all. Please let me know what you think.

I have this problem on mine, mine gets fixed by fiddling with the connectors on the back of the unit. The clips break easily, and pin connectors can corrode. Try cleaning up the connectors and making sure they are locked in place. Maybe hit connectors with some QD electrical cleaner, and PCB(gauge board) with some 600 grit sandpaper to clean those flat blades.

turns out the gear i just replaced had a tooth break off, i tried using some superglue to form a new tooth, but that didn't last long. that's the gear that i cannot find anywhere online..... i had to buy that gear used off of a guy on this forum. if anyone has another for sale, or a tip on repairing the gear, please let me know .
