Default Engine whine

I am still very new to this car, and hoping to get some experienced ears:

What is the high pitched whine? The engine seems to run fine and has enough power, I am thinking it could be a water pump or the air conditioning compressor, but hoping you guys might have some advice. Thanks!

Pretty much normal, but the balance shaft could be tensioned a bit too tight.

As the guru said, balance shaft belts slightly over tightened. Not critical, but you could loosen them a tad if you want. All of them make a slight whine.

A piece of advice: its common for folks who are just getting into a 944 to come to these forums and enthusiastically ask many basic questions. But keep in mind that these cars are old and most of these questions have already been answered in many many previous threads or websites. I recommend googling "porsche 944 [question]" or "porsche 944 [question] forums" before posting a thread. The question you posted literally has hundreds of threads already in existence. The same goes for "my 944 wont start"

I would highly encourage you to read through the entirety of Clarks Garage Shop Manual. Doing so will prepare you with the knowledge of already knowing most of the quirks of these cars without depending on others to tell you.
