Power steering pump from VW T25?
Pump on the 944S2 leaking fairly liberally. Maybe because I have been topping up with PSF rather than ATF Dexron III as recommended in some other threads.
I am also sure that changing seals is feasible but for convenience and speed - and because its 30 years old - I am looking for new.
It appears to me that the VW pump from a T25 campervan is the identical thing ... but have not found any pundits saying so. Does anyone know?
VW OEM PART NUMBER: 251-422-155/A
Price new £95
cp. Porsche part new £700+ or 2nd hand £200

These pumps were used everywhere and there's a pretty standard form factor, which is great. What I think you need to make sure of is that the pressure on the replacement pump is correct for your car. From my experience with my 928, the pressure from the pump is different and, on the 944 Turbo, is higher than the 928 (not sure about all years, though).
You can probably also find these pumps for Mercedes and BMWs of that vintage.
Please keep us updated about what you find, it will be very helpful to document this for future owners.
Cheers

All the ZF pumps that I have seen have a plate with pump info, including the pressure. You can probably find the Porsche equivalent (100 bar (as seen in the pic) most likely for your 944.
Here is an example:

Update
Turned out in 2020 it was the rack leaking not the pump. One reconditioned rack later and the T25 pump has been sitting in the shed ever since - until now.
Well its an identical aluminium casting to the Porsche original. The innards are a bit different and the two machined threaded hose connections are smaller on the Porsche part. Then obviously there is the triangular mounting instead of the belt pulley wheel.
The triangular mount has three M8 threaded holes so we drilled the pulley wheel and bolted it on with thread lock. No obvious way to get around the hose fixings - so we re-used the back half of the original. Still .. all new seals and internals.
I don't seem to have a plate on my pump but I read here https://944hybrids.forumotion.com/t1...-steering-pump that the 944 pump is rated to 110-120 bar. Can't find a rating for the T25.
Then again maybe it would have been sufficient to just replace the seals at £44 ...
