Default 944 S2 - Oil in spark plug wells

Hi Guys,
my saga continues.
while changing the spark plugs (have not figured out the clicking noise yet, from my other post), I noticed that there was oil on plugs and in wells. See attached photos..

any thoughts on what might be the cause and fix?

Yes, the cam cover has four large rubber washers to seal the spark plug tube from the camshaft housing.
Replace them and it's good.

Replace the rubber washers that go under each of the cover bolts, and do not torque them more than 7-10 ft-lbs. They are shoulder bolts and additional torque will not make them seal the cam cover any further, the rubber washers under each bolt does that.

This oil leak could lower the oil pressure to the hydraulic valve lifters so the lifter is not filled completely with engine oil, thus the clicking noise.

my plan for this weekend is to clean out the oil out of the wells, put new plugs and wire set. Hoping that would stop the ticks..
I don't think I have the skills to open the valve cover, change gaskets and ensure that I close it correctly... Will have to take it to a mechanic for that job..

Lefty- it is a real easy job- the cover is just a magnesium part that is held down by some screws holding rubber bushings. There is a gasket around the outer edge and the 4 rings. This is a less than 1 hour job- you can do this. BTW, this was exactly the same problem I had on my Cabrio 2 years ago. I thought it was a serious issue, but it was so simple! When you torque the screws that hold the cover down, use the proper torque and no tighter. If you do take it to a mechanic this should be a very cheap and easy job. So don’t let them gouge you. As long as you are taking the cover off, inspect the wear pads that the small chain that turns the intake. Go to YouTube and see how to remove and install the cover- search “adjusting the timing of a Porsche 944 S2” by user irina25661. See cover installation at around 15:00 mark. Watch the whole video- super informative! But it will show you how simple this cover gasketing is!

To clarify- I meant to say “turns the intake camshaft”.

The clicking noise is the fuel injectors, haven't heard a 3.L engine yet that didn't make that noise.
Kinda sounds like a lifter but it's not. Put a stick or something rigid between one of the injectors and your ear, you'll hear it clearly.

@Luis Garcia : Try 944online. They have sets available, as well as individual parts.

Cheers

Your 8 valve 844 does not use these bolts or rubber washers. A completely different arrangement on the 16 valve cars.

Be careful of over-tightening the shouldered bolts. The torque spec is 7.5 ft. lbs., but they break easily. I suggest 6 ft. lbs. (72 in. lbs.). They won't loosen due to the tension the rubber seal (against the valve cover top) provides.
