Default Broken alternator wire/connector thing??

I'm in the process of installing my engine, and when I picked up my alternator, I felt something crumble. There is a short, 2-3 inch long wire with a 90 degree connector on one end and a black box on the other. It's not a voltage regulator. Any idea what it is? More importantly, where do I find a replacement?

It's a capacitor used to reduce "alternator whine" into the radio and/or audio amplifiers.

You alternator will run fine without it, and will charge the battery with or without.

As far as getting a replacement, try a local auto parts store, but don't be optimistic. It might be possibly available through a Bosch supplier. Anything that mechanically fits will be OK.

Well that's a relief, I didn't have much luck trying to figure it out. Glad it doesn't affect the car in any critical way. Just need to buy an alternator cover now
