Jacking the 944
#3
Hi!
I`m using two cheap garagejacks, one on each side, and two jack stands for safety.
Also using a piece of carpet to protect the underbody sealant.
Works fine on my 1989 944 S2 Cab

The best (factory recommended) jacking points are the round metal protrusions in the middle (lengthwise) of the car (at the indented diamond below the doors). It's best to raise one side of the car, support it on stands, then raise the other side.
You can safely raise the front of the car by putting the jack under the crossmember below the engine. Use a piece of wood to spread the load (e.g. I use a piece of 2x4 that is ~20 inches long).
You can also jack the rear of the car by the transaxle, but I wouldn't recommend it, and definitely don't support the car from the transaxle for more than a few minutes (just long enough to get stands under the rear of the car).
If you are working under the car, use 4 jack stands properly located under the chassis. Never trust your life to a floor jack (no matter how good the quality). I use 4 stands then 2 jacks as additional safety. Jack stands are cheap...
Let us know if you are unsure where to place the stands.
