Fixing my seat hinge covers
If you're like me, your seat hinge covers have started to fall off. Not because they're in particularly bad shape, but because the tiny landing for the screws cracked and fell away:
For a long time I looked for good used covers, but, like all cheap Porsche 30-year-old plastic, they're non-existent or more expensive than they're worth. Solution: epoxy!
Note: this is marine epoxy. I recommend using a clear epoxy as the white finish is a little more obvious on most dark colors. Place the hinge cover on a flat surface and pin it down:
After mixing the epoxy, place it gingerly in the screw holes. Don't fill up the hole! You want the screw to Nestle down into the hole.
Let it dry, and you'll get something like this (sand them down a bit to get more clearance)
Drill out ample screw hole. I used a 3/16".
Smack it on there, making sure to hook the thing on the whatsit, and screw it in.
And Thor Stronginthearm's your uncle!
I'll post back if they fall apart. no news is good news.
