I would test the vacuum line that leads back to the transmission. Easy to access under the hood and an easy test. If it doesn't hold vacuum, your shifts will be much rougher.
The soft vacuum line that you can access under the hood joins a hard line that travels back along the top side of the torque tube. Near the back of the transmission, the hard line again joins a soft rubber line to the modulator. The soft lines are notorious for breaking down or simply coming loose from the hard lines. Find the leak, replace that line with new and enjoy your new to you 928!

Saw your post after doing a search for a PCar mechanic in the DesMoines area. I take it that Beckley Imports a nice job for you ? I spoke briefly with John today about a PPI and he sounded pretty knowlegable.
I am hoping they can not only do the PPI, but be my 'eyes' as I am only about 1800 miles away, and am trying to avoid any 'unexpected' surprizes.
Thx

Welcome. I have a guards red 99 996 aero with sport options. Also have a guards red 1990 928GT.
You have the right color. Good condition and low miles. This is really a keeper.
1. TB & WP soon
2. Check vac like Curry said, if it doesn't improve - guess what? Driving it might.
3. Motor mounts look perished. Steering rack bushings and boots while you are down there, maybe a pan gasket.
After that, whatever stuff comes up. It's different than the 996. Not as nimble. But remember, it's a touring car.

after over 13 months of ownership my 928 went to the shop today, I bit the bullet because I'm 6 months behind on everything
I'm still on the mend from hip replacement surgery and fighting a nasty cellulitis since April, not to mention I spent a week sequestered
in a jury trial
It has sat on a battery maintainer for quite some time, with an occasional start
The hatch area was filled with parts, everything from plugs to coolant and a waterpump, belts, thermo
Despite my fears, I drove the car about 40 miles last night, (it got better by the minute) to a spray wash and just a general idea of the sounds it makes
It didn't implode, the belt didn't break, the power steering lines all held
Everything felt smooth and functioned as it should, these are not slow cars...almost reminded of my 85 Corvette
It definitely needs tires, currents are very Flinstonian and probably circa Desert Storm
I'll update when it gets back, I'm hoping for a couple of thousand miles by Thanksgiving
a special thanks to Stan and KC Attorney for the assistance in outlining the service plan
